How to Enable 2FA on Amazon

Amazon stores your credit cards, addresses, and Prime subscription. Two-step verification with an authenticator app blocks anyone who steals or guesses your password from placing orders or changing payment methods.

Quick path: Your Account → Login & security → 2-Step Verification (2SV) Settings

Step-by-step: 2FA setup on Amazon

  1. 1

    Open Login & security

Sign in at amazon.com → hover 'Account & Lists' → 'Your Account'. Click 'Login & security'. Amazon will ask you to re-enter your password.

  2. 2

    Open 2-Step Verification settings

Find '2-Step Verification (2SV) Settings' and click 'Edit'. Click 'Get Started'.

  3. 3

    Choose Authenticator App

Amazon defaults to SMS — instead, click 'Authenticator App'. Amazon displays a QR code.

  4. 4

    Scan with 2FAA

Open 2FAA, scan the QR code. A 6-digit Amazon code starts rotating in 2FAA.

  5. 5

    Verify and add backup

Type the current 2FAA code into Amazon. Amazon then asks for a backup phone number for SMS recovery. Add it (or click 'Add new phone number' later from the same screen).

  6. 6

    Choose device trust setting

Amazon offers to skip 2FA on 'trusted devices'. For maximum security, leave this off — you'll be asked for a 2FA code every login.

Generate Amazon 2FA codes with 2FAA

You don't need a separate authenticator app. 2FAA is a free, browser-based TOTP generator — your secret never leaves your device, and it works offline as a PWA. The same secret can be used in parallel with Google Authenticator or Authy if you prefer redundancy.

Frequently asked questions

Does Amazon 2FA work for Kindle, AWS, and Prime Video?

Yes for Amazon retail (Prime, Kindle store, Prime Video) — same account. AWS has its own separate IAM 2FA system: setting up retail 2FA does NOT enable AWS MFA.

Why is Amazon asking for a 2FA code every time I shop?

You probably turned off 'Don't require codes on this device' or you're on a new browser/device. Re-enable trusted-device skip during your next login if you prefer convenience over strict security.

Can I use 2FAA on Amazon mobile shopping app?

Yes. The Amazon app prompts for the 6-digit code at sign-in; you can read it from 2FAA on the same phone or any other device where 2FAA is installed.
